Mood-Board Monday: The Small Entryway
We are almost a month into 2025 and this year is already proving itself to be a crazy year! Here at Mi Vida, I am hoping to make some big changes and really jump head first into the interior design side of the business... insert Mi Vida Interiors.
There will be lots of new things to come but something I really want to emphasize is that we can all make our homes a space that we love.
The first act of business will be Mood-Board Mondays. These mood-board sessions are all about talking through different spaces, how to go about styling them and sharing my product selections with all of you. My hope is that anyone looking for a change may either be inspired to create their own mood board or utilize some of the products I mention weekly as the building blocks of their own space.
For this first Mood-Board Monday, I was thinking we would work on styling an entryway. The entryway of a home is our very first chance to make an impact on the overall feeling of our space.
I often feel like my customers/clients struggle most with smaller entrways as they feel they are unsure what to prioritize or how to style them... With that in mind, I put together a neutral, functional space with some subtle pops of color and character.
Mirror
The hero piece of this space (the piece of decor that I will be using as the jumping off point for the design) is the Outside the Lines Mirror from our Homebody Collection at Mi Vida Collective. Not only does this piece have a unique silhouette but it also creates the perfect focal point for an entryway wall.
I personally love a mirror in an entryway because its a great way to create a sense of openness. Also, who doesn't need to get a last minute mirror check before heading out the door?
Accent Cabinet
The burl wood cabinet I selected for this space is definitely on the smaller side, so if you are working with a larger area then I would suggest choosing a piece that will fill out the space more.
I went with a cabinet because personally I feel like having closed storage in the entry way is key to reducing the clutter that loves to hangout by the front door. This way, your shoes, dog leashes, keys and even purses have somewhere to hide.
Wall Sconces
How cute are these wall sconces? I love that the have a unique shape and are not so large that they will become the focal piece but will still definitely make a statement on either side of this mirror. By adding these in we are introducing another material to the space as well as another form of lighting.
Wall sconces are a great way to make a space feel well thought out and more custom. The wiring may seem daunting but truly, if there is already any form of electrical on this wall, it shouldn't be too difficult to have it done! AND if you are renting or just prefer non-wired options, there are so many on the market now to choose from.
Runner
This is where the fun begins... once we have our foundation set, this is where we can play more with trend/more daring pieces. I personally love this runner from Rugs USA. I have had great experiences with their rugs (especially the washable ones) and this one is a great way to add warmth and texture to the entryway. Reds are definitely trending and this Brick Checkered style is a great way to bring that into your home.
Smaller Decor Pieces
To me, decor is where a lot of the fun happens. Hence why I own an online home decor shop haha. I feel like decor is easier to play with yet a great way to add in your personal style and change things up from time to time.
For this space, I have kept it simple by adding in a red coffee table book and an organically shaped decorative bowl.
Coffee table books are a great way to add in pops of color to your space but also to incorporate your interests within your home. I always tell my customers/clients that they should buy coffee table books that actually reflect the things they enjoy. Whether thats art, music, food, travel, etc.
Decorative bowls in the entry way are a must for me. Keys can easily scratch up furniture over time and the hooks on the way just don't feel aesthetic to me. I think a nice bowl is a great way to corral your everyday items without making them the center of attention.
