Capsule Wardrobe Meets Capsule Decor

I'm sure you've all heard about creating a "capsule wardrobe." It's all about curating pieces that can be styled together in many different ways to create all of your essential looks...

Well, here at Mi Vida, we have taken the time to curate Capsule Decor. We curate, unique yet neutral and timeless pieces that can be styled in your space for years to come. It's not that we are afraid of color here at Mi Vida Collective, instead we seek to incorporate pieces in our collection that would work with almost any interior decor style and in almost any home. The best pieces are the ones that stay with us over time and that we are comfortable transitioning from one room to another.

How to Curate Your Capsule Decor

1. Be patient and thoughtful

Curating capsule decor is all about having the patience to collect pieces over time. It is so important to be thoughtful about what you incorporate into your space. I always say, when you make purchasing decisions on a whim, it's more likely that you will find that the pieces you have purchased don't truly fit the aesthetic or purpose you were trying to fulfill in your space.

Take your time creating a list of the types of pieces you would like to have in your home... Then once you have this list, allow it to serve as your guide while shopping in order to ensure that you know what to purchase and what to pass on!

2. Purchase pieces with unique OR timeless silhouettes

This may seem contradictory but hear me out... the pieces we come to love over time are the ones that either stand out in the best ways or that are simple and elegant. Everything in between gets forgotten or recycled after a short amount of time... because the truth is there is nothing tying us to these pieces. They won't survive the test of time because they aren't transitional enough but they also aren't unique enough to get us to keep loving them.

3. Follow the "Rule of 2"

The rule of 2 is the idea that you should only buy a piece for your home if you can think of at least 2 different spaces within your home that the piece could work in... I almost never buy decor for my home that I can only picture working in one space. Over time, its normal to tire of seeing decor in the same place and so knowing that your decor can shift from space to space is key to ensuring its longevity! This is absolutely key when curating capsule decor!

There will be exceptions like larger furniture pieces that are very room specific, but try to stick with this rule especially when it comes to smaller decor.

Use these 3 tricks to work towards creating capsule decor for your space... you'll never regret investing in making your space unique and timeless.
