Day 10: Use Decor to Shift Towards a New Favorite Interior Style

It's Day 10 of "31 Days of Loving Our Homes" and I truly am taken aback by how fast they days are passing! Our resolution for the day is to use decor to shift towards a new favorite interior style. I am very passionate about making interior decorating attainable for everyone and this is one of my top tips for those of you who are realizing that your space doesn't exactly fit your ideal interior decor style or aesthetic.

It's often not practical to scrap everything in a space in order to buy new pieces that fit our new favorite interior style... for this reason, starting with smaller decor pieces is a great start. Actually, some furniture pieces create a pretty neutral foundation and thus, simply changing up the smaller decor may be all you need in order to achieve the new aesthetic.

Shifting Decor Styles in Steps

Step 1: Identify the Elements that Resonate With You

If you have been trying to make a shift, then starting by addressing the elements you appreciate about the new interior style is key. For example, if you find yourself interested in a more Rustic Modern interior style like the one pictured above, ask yourself "what elements am I specifically gravitating towards?" It may be moody wall finishes or rich wood tones or perhaps the texture that is so prominent in this design style.

Step 2: Begin Sourcing Decor

Once you know what it is that you love about the particular decor style that interests you, you can begin to source decor pieces that fit these elements. For example, if you are attracted to pieces with more depth and texture, pieces like our Rustic Bud Vase would be a great fit.

Pro Tip: Really use your list of elements to guide your purchasing... The only way to ensure that you are moving towards the style that you like is to be thoughtful about all of your purchases. I know first hand how easy it can be to get carried away but being patient and waiting for the right pieces to come along is key!
