Day 4: Make a Moodboard
Welcome to Day 4 of "31 Days of Loving Our Homes!" Todays resolution is to begin making moodboards for the changes that we wish to see in our homes as well as just to curate images of the overall interior style we hope for our homes to have.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Mood boards are GAME CHANGERS… our style is constantly shifting and mood boards are a great way to identify patters in the things that we like. I also personally feel that using specific interior styles to define our spaces can be very limiting and keep us from trying things that we like. The fear to "stick to a specific interior style" is very real and I constantly see people struggling with this when the truth is many interior designers/interior decorators will often mesh components of several different styles into one space.
So instead of sticking to a style because you think you need to, curate images for your mood boards that reflect what you like without thinking too much into it.
Pinterest is one of my favorite ways to create mood boards. It's a great way to envision the things we want to achieve in a specific space. They help us to visualize what we want and thus make it easier to make decisions that are going to benefit our space as opposed to purchasing things on a whim because they feel like the right price point or because we think they might work in the moment…
Actually, I think the best thing about using an app like Pinterest for your mood boards is that you always have access to it…if you are in the store and are interested in a décor piece or a piece of furniture you can easily reference your board to decide whether it’s a good fit. I can't tell you how many times I have been really into a piece but then when I reference the overall look that I am going for I realize that it really won't serve me well.
Pro tip: When using apps like Pinterest to save images that you like, really take advantage of the "board" feature that allows you do organize the images based on a board title. That way, when you want to look back on your inspiration you can click on a specific board as opposed to searching through all of your saved images. For example, I have a home board that I have divided up into several boards including, "kitchen, bathroom, living room, architecture", etc.
Come back tomorrow to dive into the "why" behind some of the changes you would like to make in your space this year! Our goal is to connect to "purpose" in order to motivate change!
