Day 5: Define Your Why

Happy to have you back for Day 5 of "31 Days of Loving Our Homes!" On this 5th day of the New Year I really wanted to take the time to "define our why."

When speaking with customers in the past, I have noticed that many people set goals or intentions for their spaces, but they lack the motivation to go through with these changes. Yes, often times the road-block can be affording the change but you'd be surprised how often change isn't made simply because we aren't fully committed to making that change.

Motivation can truly be a fickle beast but finding purpose can be a huge motivator. So that is what this 5th day of New Years Resolutions is all about.

The actionable item for the day is to grab the list of changes that you want to make to your space in 2024 (the one we created on Day3) and really dive into the “why” for each change you included on that list.

For example, if #1 on your list was to convert the guest room into a play room for your children, beside it you may write "creating this space will allow my children to have a space to play and to create new memories with each other and with me."

The point of this exercise is that often we are originally motivated to make a change because of a larger, more personal purpose but as time goes by the task seems to morph itself into something that may feel more materialistic or not as valuable. The truth is, there will be some changes on your list that you may want to cross off because they don't seem important, BUT there may also be some items on your list that you have been putting off and that you realize you truly value.

Your why can be something as simple as "because it will bring me joy." We are often conditioned to think that is a selfish motivation, but the truth is, feeling happy & comfortable in our homes allows us to truly recharge and come back to ourselves. When our cups are full and we are joyous we are able to give more to those around us.

Take the time to connect with the changes you want to see in your space and to connect to the why. You may find that you are more motivated to cross some long pending items off of your list.
